A podcast by Alberto Giovannetti
The Diary
of a VC
The human side of European venture capital.
Honest conversations with founders, investors, and operators building the future of European tech. From Lucca to Munich — and everywhere in between.
The show
What is this?
The Diary of a VC is a long-form podcast that goes behind the scenes of European early-stage venture capital. Inspired by The Diary of a CEO, it flips the lens — exploring what it actually looks like from the investor's side of the table. No polished pitches. No corporate jargon. Just real conversations with the people building, funding, and shaping the European tech ecosystem.

A manifesto
Why this exists.
Munich, 2026. A set of beliefs about what this podcast is — and what it refuses to be.
We are done with the sanitized version.
Venture capital has a storytelling problem. The public narrative is built on term sheets and LinkedIn announcements — success told in retrospect, with the mess edited out. We reject that. The doubt, the frameworks built at 2am, the founders who changed how you see the world — those stories deserve to exist.
Industry and humanity are not opposites.
Adriano Olivetti believed a factory could be a place of beauty — that the people inside it mattered as much as the products coming out. We believe the same about venture capital. The best investments are not made in spreadsheets. They are made in conversations. In the space between certainty and doubt. In the human moment.
Europe has a voice. It just hasn't spoken yet.
A generation of investors and founders is doing something genuinely original — building from Milan to Munich, from Warsaw to Lisbon, without a Silicon Valley playbook to follow. This is not a weakness. It is the most interesting thing happening in technology right now. We want to document it from the inside.
The curious mind never stops.
Leonardo da Vinci wrote that learning never exhausts the mind. Every investor worth listening to has proven this true — they are students first, analysts second. This podcast exists because the best conversations are the ones where both people leave knowing something they didn't before.

Who it's for
Made for the people
building European tech.
Founders
You're building something. You want to understand how investors actually think — what makes them say yes, what keeps them up at night, and what they wish founders knew before walking into the room.
Investors
You're in the business, or you want to be. You want frameworks, mental models, and honest takes on what early-stage investing in Europe actually looks like — beyond the polished conference panels.
Operators
You're inside a company — building, scaling, fixing. You want to understand the capital layer above you: how decisions get made, how ecosystems work, and what the people writing checks are really thinking.
